24 third-year medical students from the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, the University of Hong Kong held a campaign titled “Support Organ Donation - pledge to be a donor!” to promote organ donation in Causeway Bay on 5th December. 

The medical students, dressed as organs, gathered in the pedestrian zone in Great George Street and approached pedestrians to encourage them to register as an organ donor. During the 5 hours of promotion, 979 of signatures were collected from pedestrians pledging their support for organ donation. Dr. CHOY Bo Ying, Cindy, Vice-President of the Hong Kong Society of Transplantation Council ; Dr. CHENG Beatrice, co-ordinator of transplant services for the Hospital Authority and Council member of the Hong Kong Society of Transplantation; and Dr. HO Chung Ping, Chairman of Organ Donation Committee, the Hong Kong Medical Association pledged their support at a special card-signing ceremony.





On October 25th 2008 at 12noon Greenwich Meantime, the world will walk 5km across 5 continents to raise awareness for organ donation and transplantation.

The World’s Biggest Walk is the only global event that knows no borders or state lines and has one vision. We all have a choice and a voice, through the power of our feet.


Hong Kong Society of Transplantation, in collaboration with the Hospital Authority, Hong Kong Society of Nephrology, Hong Kong Kidney Foundation, Department of Health, Hong Kong Medical Association and Health Link Promotions, organized a “World’s Biggest Walk cum Donor Families Acknowledgement Ceremony”  in the Olympic Square, Hong Kong Park on 25 Oct 2008. Around one thousand people including donor families, recipients and medical professional participated in the ceremony and the walk. There was prize presentation for the essay and e-card competition and patient and donor family sharing. The ceremony attracted good media attention and served a good education to the public and the youngsters.
